To all the “Diamonds in the Rough,” be of good courage you will rise up. Don’t allow your circumstances to keep you down, keep your faith on solid ground, look to the sky you have God Almighty who is always nearby. Each day remind yourself you are somebody and you do matter. Remember this Godly acronym, S.W.A.G.G. (someone who appreciates God’s grace). Be of hope, optimism, motivation, be empowered. Let God be your shield of comfort and encouragement. God provides the power of redemption beyond comprehension. A deep appreciation and respect for all who do extend a helping hand to the oppressed, destitute, hungry, heartbroken child, woman and man who strive to exist in a perilous, unrelenting concrete jungle land.

In Memorandum:

Sometimes people don’t really comprehend until it’s them, a family member or close friend.  We would like to give a real name to a real person who experienced housing insecurity and whose life was filled with the constant battle for daily survival, dealing with the harsh realities of a difficult existence day and night, an unrelenting fight. Today, we pay homage and give respect to our family member, Mr. Donald Clay, who due to his personal circumstances decided to live decades of his life the residentially disadvantaged way.  He succumbed in the prime of life to the ravages of war on the street. Before he died, he was brutally and severely beat and passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 28, 2014 Thanksgiving Day.  He surrendered in peace to defeat, much needed rest, last breath, sigh of relief, cradled in the loving arms of the Lord, a true paradise retreat!

Nowhere to call home. The Men, Women and Children of the residentially disadvantaged are at the forefront of the battlefield of life filled with uncertainty, torment and strife on a daily basis. They fight these battles literally from the outside, from the trenches of a hostile and turbulent environment without the comfort and protection of a constructed shell that we who have one call home. They are the true survivors who demonstrate inner strength, resiliency and perseverance. All those who suffer through adversities and hardships of all forms should be encouraged, supported, loved and treated equally.

The superficial veneer of society should be unveiled to accurately reveal the true nature of the carnage of broken lives who are subjected to inhumane treatment and burdened with living a miserable existence in an unforgiving environment and severe poverty. When there is no hope life funnels into a downward spiral which can imprison one into emotional solitude and minimize a positive outcome. It is vital to treat humans experiencing housing insecurities and other economic, mental and physical hardships with respect and compassion as equal, fellow human beings without their lives being condemned to a life of alienation. No home. Still human.

Redemption remains possible for even the most vulnerable lost souls if unconditional love is utilized rather than scorn. We have the ability to shape a more compassionate reality, allowing those who suffer to heal through community care, fostering a nurturing connection with compassion that people deserve. Help them to turn a page to see another chapter. While housing insecurity and poverty is an unfortunate, sad reality that truly portrays the negative side effects of such devastating circumstances of life, there is always the light of hope to a positive future outcome. It is always possible that anyone can rise from the pits to the palace from obscurity to power.

The life of sleeping rough and crippling poverty and its impact is not the stuff of fairy tales this is a true life saga from the very depths of hell. But oh wait, there’s much more of their story to tell, a lot more than the eye can see…the irony. Viewing life of the ‘diamonds in the rough’ is more than a casual drive-by on the street just randomly previewing a brief sneak peek. This life is not like the sound bytes you see on reality tv or a random screenshot from your mobile device you post on IG. Lack of a proper view can create a distorted perspective.

This is a modern-day saga, a human unfathomable tragedy worldwide. Vivid images and heartbreaking stories can be emotionally overwhelming. You can maintain your emotional balance and protect your well-being while still honoring your compassion for those experiencing hardships. When the world feels dark, moments of human resilience and kindness shines through even in the darkest times. Remember, as you extend your concern for others it’s essential that you practice self care. When we join TOGETHER we have the incredible capacity to overcome adversity.

How we treat each other matters. Just think, what a tremendous difference we could make in our communities, our state, our nation and throughout the world if we ALL extended a simple act of kindness, compassion, equality, and generosity to the needs of those who are most vulnerable and less fortunate, a suffering humanity. Just because you experience hardship and devastating circumstances, you are still worthy of hope, you are worthy of a new beginning, encouragement, and compassion. Most of all you’re worthy of being loved, respected and being seen as a human being. GOOD NEWS, YOUR CURRENT SITUATION DOES NOT DEFINE YOUR WORTH!

H.O.P.E. Hold on, pain ends. Giving support in serving others can have a profound and lasting impact. H.O.P.E. Help out people everywhere. Understand that a person’s worth is not measured by their successes, but by their resilience in the face of adversity. Even in the face of an unjust fate, the human spirit can find its way back to the light. No matter what is happening around you, no matter what is happening within you, you have what it takes to excel pass your limitations. Everyone is someone for whom Christ died. I am His is enough. -ArkCha’GivingHope.Org
