BREAKING STEREOTYPES…

We need to break the stereotype image of the unhoused as being weak and excluded, treated as second-class citizens, rejected, marginalized and burdened with societal judgement and social ostracism. Society can erect visible and invisible divisive barriers that create roadblocks that separate, divide and compartmentalize. These societal obstructions can divide people from one another. Instead, let’s break down the walls of separation, ensuring that the voices and needs of those most affected by severe unforeseen circumstances are clearly heard.

Residentially disadvantaged (unhoused) is a temporary state of being rather than a permanent physical characteristic or class to which they belong. It is something happening to them, rather than who they are. Being unhoused and poor is their circumstance, not their identity. Let’s highlight the ‘human’ first, no fluff just the facts of human beings living a tragic existence on streets not meant for human life. The subject matter of the unhoused, poor and needy sectors may not be a popular topic of conversation but a necessary one.

One of the ways to make a seemingly impossible situation better is explore ways to actively and effectively address the issues to a permanent resolvement. Putting words into action not just regurgitating stagnant information already in public domain and offering no permanent change. If streets to permanent housing and all the other nuisances in between is the goal then action needs be taking to do so. We have to make change to create change. -ArkCha’GivingHope.Org
